This is a work of mine dedicated to the world of jazz. I tried to translate into sign and color the energy, freedom and improvisation typical of this musical genre. I didn't want to simply represent a musician or an instrument, but to evoke that continuous movement, that tension between order and chaos that you can feel in every jazz piece.
The shapes are deliberately broken down, like an improvised solo that follows its own logic. The central figure holds together several symbolic elements: a trumpet, a vinyl record, a score. The eye is off-center, the hands seem unbalanced, yet everything finds a balance, just like in a quartet that listens to and chases each other.
I worked with primary colors - red, blue, yellow - because they immediately give me a sense of rhythm and strength. I also liked the idea that the flat backgrounds and the full and empty spaces created a kind of "visual music", a bit as if the work could be played with the gaze.
The writing “CHET Baker” is a tribute to the great Jazz trumpeter
